What’s Cooking @ HEPL: Ep 05

By: Heidi Herald

Welcome back to the What’s Cooking @ HEPL blog! I am Heidi Herald, a Public Services Librarian at Hamilton East Public Library. I will be reviewing one of the library’s cookbooks each month. This month, I tried some recipes from Yotam Ottolenghi’s cookbook Ottolenghi Flavor. I really enjoyed his flavorful, vegetarian recipes.

The recipes in this cookbook are more involved and require more ingredients than some of the other cookbooks I have reviewed so far. However, the recipes have an incredible depth of flavor and I know I will make some of the recipes I have tried again.

I loved the Za’atar Cacio E Pepe pictured to the left!

Mashed Sweet Potatoes
I also tried Mashed Sweet Potatoes with Yogurt and Lime. This recipe has a lot of interesting flavors including lime, garlic, pomegranate molasses, cilantro, and red chile. They combine to create a delicious and healthy dish.

Miso Butter Onions
I brought Miso Butter Onions to work to share with my coworkers, and these were a favorite. This amazingly simple recipe uses only onions, butter, and miso and may not look the prettiest on the plate, but it is so flavorful and delicious!

Chaat Masala Potatoes
Finally, in the video below I make Chaat Masala Potatoes with Yogurt and Tamarind!

I hope you will borrow Ottolenghi Flavor from our library collections! It is available in print and as an eBook through Libby/OverDrive.
