Why do you LOVE reading books? Is it escapism? How about feeling the world fade away and the thrill of taking a vacation inside your own head?  

Do you enjoy learning something new or the challenge of understanding different points of view? As Atticus Finch puts it in To Kill a Mockingbird, “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view…until you climb in his skin and walk around in it.”  

Or perhaps holding a physical book in your hands brings you joy. The smell of the pages, the crack of the spine, the texture of the paper on your fingertips. Whatever you enjoy about reading, we invite you to express that joy by participating in our annual Winter Reading Program!

This year’s program is the For the Love of Reading Bingo Challenge! It runs from February 1 – 28 and features a fun bingo game. The Winter Reading Program gives readers of all ages an incentive to read and connect with others during this cold winter month.

Download the Beanstack app or visit our HEPL Beanstack site to get started. Patrons with an existing Beanstack account can simply log in to join the challenge. Pre-registration starts on January 13th.  

Readers of all ages who log pages, write reviews, and complete activities on the Bingo card will earn e-tickets into prize drawings for a variety of e-gift cards. A few of the activities you may complete include attending a library program, creating in Ignite Studio, checking out a cookbook to test tasty recipes, and even recommending a book to a friend. You’ll earn e-tickets when you complete a badge, get a Bingo, or cover your full Bingo card. Earn badges in a line (row, column, or diagonally) to unlock your Bingo badge!

Participants of all ages will select which gift card prize(s) to direct their e-ticket(s) toward. You can place all your e-tickets in just a single prize pool OR divide your tickets amongst several prize pools! Gift cards include Amazon, Barnes & Noble, MoonShot Games, and Starbucks. All gift cards are worth $50.  Drawings will be held on March 6, 2023, and winners will be contacted via email or phone. TWO winners will be chosen randomly per gift card option.
