Digital Resources FAQ

Can I access the digital media resources on any device?

Our digital media resources are designed to be accessible on a wide range of devices, including computers, tablets, and smartphones. However, ensure you have the necessary apps or software installed. For specific device requirements, check our “Device Compatibility Guide” or contact our support team.

How do I access the eBooks and other digital media?

If you access our online databases while at the library, just click on the database you are interested in and begin exploring. If you are using a computer outside the library, you will get an OCLC login screen that will ask for a username (your library card number) and password (your library card PIN). Due to contractual agreements, not all borrower accounts may be able to access these resources from outside the library, in which case we encourage you to visit the library to use our computers.

If you encounter problems the first time you attempt to log in, please clear your browser’s cookies and try again.

Can I download content to my device for offline use?

Yes. Many items can be downloaded from Libby, hoopla and Freegal. There may be restrictions on formats based on your device or download speeds. For the best download experience, we encourage you to use the specific app (Libby, hoopla, etc.) rather than the HEPL catalog. If you encounter any issues with downloads, please contact the library and we can assist.

Are there any limits to the number of digital items I can borrow?

Our e-Books and e-Audio resources through Overdrive and the Libby app are limited to 10 items at a time. Once you have finished with an ebook or audiobook title, you may return it through the app or your library account and become eligible for additional ebooks and audiobook materials.

Hoopla items, available through the Hoopla App and the HEPL online catalog, allow cardholders to borrow up to 15 titles per calendar month. Cardholders must create a Hoopla account to identify how many borrows they have remaining per month. Look for Hoopla “bonus borrows” as items in this curated collection don’t count against your limit!

Freegal Music: Cardholders may download five songs per week and stream up to three hours per day beginning each Monday at 1:00 am EST. Cardholders must create a Freegal music account to identify how many downloads or streaming hours are remaining.
